Stale is a browser extension that shows you how old content on the web is. It displays freshness indicators (e.g. dates, “stale” badges) on search results and web pages so you can judge recency at a glance. We do not collect, sell, or share your data. All processing happens on your device.

Nothing you do inside the extension is transmitted to us for collection or analysis.
The extension requests the following permissions. Each is used only as described and is limited in scope.
Used to save your preferences (e.g. on/off, freshness thresholds, badge position) and local cache on your device. Data stays in your browser’s extension storage and is not sent elsewhere.
Used for scheduled tasks inside the extension only: resetting a local daily quota and cleaning up local cache. No data leaves your device.
Used only to read the Last-Modified HTTP response header on pages you visit, so the extension can show a “last modified” date. The value is used locally and temporarily; it is not sent to us or any third party.
Used so the extension can run on the tab you are currently viewing when you invoke it (e.g. to show freshness on that page). Access is limited to the active tab when you use the extension.
Used to inject the extension’s own scripts into search result pages and, if you grant optional access, into other pages. This is only to display freshness information. We do not load or run remote code.
Used so the extension can add freshness indicators on search result pages. Processing is done locally on your device; no page content or URLs are sent to us.
If you grant optional “access to all websites,” the extension can read the Last-Modified header on any page you visit, not only search results. This is still used only locally to show dates. No data is sent to our servers.
If you purchase Stale Pro, payment is handled by the Chrome Web Store or by an external payment provider (e.g. Stripe). We do not receive, store, or process your payment details (card numbers, billing address, etc.). Those are handled entirely by the payment provider; their privacy policy applies to the transaction. The extension does not store any payment data.
All data the extension keeps (preferences, local cache, license state) is stored only on your device using the browser’s extension storage. We do not use external servers to store or process your data. No data is uploaded to us.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties. The only external services involved are (1) the Chrome Web Store for installation and optional in-app purchase, and (2) an optional payment provider (e.g. Stripe) if you choose to buy Stale Pro outside the store. We do not send them any data from the extension beyond what is required for the purchase flow (e.g. redirect to checkout).
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will be revised when we do. Continued use of the extension after changes means you accept the updated policy. For material changes, we will make the updated policy clearly available (e.g. via the extension or the Chrome Web Store listing).
